ARTIST STATEMENT
I don’t feel limited by any particular style or technique. My background of art school, furniture, cabinet making and gemology are used in combination with wood turning and carving. I sometimes incorporate mineral specimens and turquoise mixed with epoxy. Finishes are either hand rubbed wax and shellac or layered lacquer and then buffed on a three-step system.
My wood art falls into two categories, functional and decorative, with some overlap. For instance the hollow forms can be used as cremation urns, the tube vases are just as nice with or without flowers, and the Cherry and turquoise bowls can hold food or fruit.
I inscribe my signature and, in most cases, the type of wood predominantly used in the piece. I do not sign a piece unless it meets my high standards of design and craftsmanship.
It is my sincere hope that my art gives someone else the thrill and wonder that I feel.
